This six-session wheel throwing course is designed for beginners and those looking to build confidence and consistency on the pottery wheel. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, students will learn the fundamental techniques of wheel throwing while developing the skills needed to create functional ceramic forms.
Over the course of six sessions, participants will learn how to prepare and center clay, open and shape forms, pull walls, and create cylinders, bowls, and cups. As the course progresses, students will focus on improving control, refining proportions, and exploring different forms and sizes. Dedicated trimming sessions will introduce techniques for finishing and refining pieces, creating clean foot rings, and preparing work for firing.
Emphasis is placed on repetition and practice, allowing students to develop a deeper understanding of the clay, the wheel, and the throwing process. Demonstrations and individual feedback will help participants strengthen their technique and troubleshoot common challenges.
By the end of the course, students will have created and trimmed a collection of ceramic pieces while gaining a solid foundation in wheel throwing. Selected works will be bisque fired by the studio, providing students with completed pieces that can be further finished or glazed at a later stage if desired.
